i haven't heard the whole context of what he said but my guess is that he was trying to say that homopobia is stupid.
I dont know the guy and didnt see him say this but for the ignorant masses, gay not only means homosexual but it has meant "stupid/lame" for my entire life and before we were ever thought of it meant "happy" so amazingly, another English word has multiple meanings.
