What are your opinions about Ellen DeGeneres and the?!
Question: whole situation about the dog? I realize she did something she wasn't supposed to do, but I just saw the shelter woman on the news, and she's really being nasty about it. She still refuses to give the dog back to the family, and I have a feeling it's out of spite, not because of the welfare of the dog.

Anyone can make an honest mistake. She did. And she should not have to keep paying for it. Anyone who was familiar with Ellen's humanitarian efforrts would have known that she certainly would not just give the dog away to anyone other than someone who would take good care of it!! They sure as heck could have figured out a sweeter solution than what they did. Now, we have one confused puppy, a number of heartbroken children, enumerable folks unhappy about the situation and rescue/adoption agencies being given a bad name. Moms and Mutts made the matter so much worse than it needed to be. Give the puppy back. Apologize. They could have had a win-win situation. Me-I hurt for Ellen and the victims of these folks with poor judgement. As for the adoption group, I know from personal experience that there are real ones out there that utilize common sense and I refuse to turn my back on them.
i think this is a horrible situation! ellen explained and cried on how she did wrong! i mean over a DOG! this is just ridiculous! i just feel bad for ellen, id hate to be in her situation. i just think this is all weird. i mean like i said...its all over a dog. the dog was being loved and cared for, dont you think that isnt enough?
I think theyre just using Ellen as an example that no matter who you are, you cant break their rules. I thought it was really sad and unfortunate that they took the dog from a loving family, JUST to prove a point. I know rules are there for a reason but it's okay to bend them once in a while. Now that dog is going to be stuck back in doggy prison instead of in a loving home just because they wanted to make an example out of it.
I hope that they get enough bad publicity from that little stunt that they're forced to give the dog back. I could understand if the dog was just given away to anyone, but she gave her dog to a family she KNEW would take great care of it, and she checked up on it regularly, and they still acted like jerks about it .
i feel so bad for ellen... she was trying to do something good, and now look what happened. i mean, whats better? the loving family ellen gave the dog to....or a horrible little cage? I just feel so bad :(
Ellen was doing a good thing. She just did not take the proper channels. I still hope the shelter gives that family a chance at adopting that dog.
I don't think Ellen did anything wrong, I do think the shelter people should allow the other family to keep the dog, after all the adoption has been paid for. I think it's a case of them not wanting anyone but Ellen to own the dog. The celebrity status of Ellen adopting a dog from their shelter weighed in on this issue. Then when Ellen gave the dog to her hairdresser, this irked the shelter people, I think they should have checked out the new owners of the dog before removing the dog from them. I think it's heartless that they took the dog away from a family that wanted it and loved it because it wasn't the original adoptive "parent" I think it's cruel for the dog and the family and I think the shelter should rethink it's reason for adopting dogs and cats in the first place. It's to find the animal a loving home and care. Regardless of who adopts it in the first place. I'm sure if Ms DeGeneres couldn't keep the dog and had no other person to give it to she would have returned it to the shelter. The one thing that we should keep in mind that if an animal is returned to shelters for any reason this counts as a black mark against them and makes them harder to place. I do agree that the shelter woman is being spiteful and it has nothing to do with the welfare of the dog. I would send that shelter an email if I could and state my opinion of the issue. Go figure, they beg you to adopt an animal then when you can't keep the animal and give it to someone you know is loving and would care for it, they get all hissy and want the animal back. What is their purpose then if not to find a good home for animals? Making money by taking the same dog back and readopting it? Greedy b***h.

On one side, I can't understand why the adoption place has the right to take the dog back...its a dog, not a child. Was there a report of animal cruelty? Is there more to the story?
On the other hand, why did she need to bring it up on TV? If her GF signed something and didn't read it, shame on her. Always read what you sign. Why should we all be subjected to any of this? I watch her show to be entertained, not to feel sorry for her blubbering on TV. It seemed like a big deal over a small deal.
P.S. I have a dog and love my dog. But still...
I know there are rules to follow. I am in a very similar situation. One of my dogs was given to me by my S-I-L and she signed a paper saying that if she was not able to keep the dog that she must return it to the breeder. She gave the dog to me instead and still the breeder has no idea. Long story short - the dog was neglected at the breeders house and my SIL just couldn't give her back knowing that the dog would be in those conditions again. I've had her for almost 5 years now, but the point is I fell in love with her the second I laid eyes on her and if she were to be taken away from me, I would just die!
Anyway, there are rules, but there are ALWAYS exceptions to the rule and I think this should have been the exception. Ellen is an avid animal lover and she would have never given the dog to an unqualified or unfit home. It's just a sad, sad situation.

I work in a shelter. Most shelters will have adopters fill out detailed applications and have the potential adopters sign a contract which says they will return the animal to the shelter if for any reason the adoption doesn't work out. The shelter is adopting out an animal to that particular person or family, they make their decision on whether to adopt out an animal to them based on their answers on the application. Sometimes there is a home visit and reference checks as well. This is all done for the welfare of the animal, trust me.
p.s. I've been hearing disturbing rumors that Ellen is a serial adopter and returner. If that is the case, all shelters in LA should deny her any future adoptions.
I feel bad for them... Everyone involved...first of all..although i can see why they would want to put somethinglike that into effect I feel if the family can show that they can meet the criteria then there should be no reason why they cant keep the dog...if they totally refuse to see the new family to see if they qualify then that's discrimination...and it's not about celebrities do as they please....things in life come up no matter who they are.....two little girls were given a pet and it was stripped from them because the women running it want to "prove a poin" what's the point? they'd rather see the puppy in a cage thenin a loving home? these people actually love the dog and dont care that it was previously ellens..online the next people who will be looking for it so they can say they have ellen degeneres dog.....these women should think long and hard about this situation....the dog may be better off with the family ellen chose to give it too... I did email them to inquire to their reasoning...we'll see if they respond...
C'mon, we all have to follow the rules. Every place that I've ever adopted a dog had rules like that so it's not like they're singling her out.
Those rules are created for the safety and well-being of the animals! Who is looking out for the pup's welfare? Ellen? I don't think so! I already heard the hairdresser already had a grown dog so it's not like the pup was going to where he'd be the center of attention and what if that other dog gets jealous and chews up the pup?
But "Oooh, I'm Ellen DeGeneres and the rules shouldn't apply to me, boo-hoo!" so the story is splashed all over the Net, on the radio and TV. Gimme' a break!
If she didn't want the pup because he was too 'rambunctious' and energetic, then she obviously doesn't know much about pups. That's their trademark!

I would not have been bullied into handing over the dog to that woman, police or not. I would have told her to take me to court. This was a civil matter where a bully used the police to act as her agent in enforcing a CIVIL contract without a court order. The woman from Moms and Mutts should be arrested and charged with larceny and trespassing. And the police KNOW that they are not legally allowed to take property without an authorized court order unless the person in possession releases it. This was bullying pure and simple.
What really bothers me the most is that people allow themselves to be pushed around by arrogant bullies like that. There was a contract? So what? it was civil. The "real" value of the dog was under a hundred dollars as property. Let the bully take her to court and whine. The inherent value of the dog to the family was much higher than a lousy hundred dollars. Why did they allow themselves to be bullied out of their pet? It would not have happened at my home. I would have called my attorney and let him deal with the police to remind them of their authority or LACK of authority in a civil matter.
I guess I can understand the position of the adoption lady; I used to be a volunteer for a rescue group, and we made people sign a contract stating that if they could not keep the animal for any reason, it was to be returned to us. We were extremely particular about who we adopted to, for the benefit of the animals.
But having said that, the "reason" given by this person for confiscating the dog from this particular family was that they didn't adopt pets to families with children under the age of 14, which is just insane! I can't believe she thinks that children younger than that aren't capable of being kind , loving and gentle to a pet. This family had two girls aged, I believe, nine and eleven. (My group's adoption policy was no pets to families with kids under four years old, by contrast.)
Additionally, does anyone think that an individual as kind-hearted and wonderful as Ellen DeGeneres would give a pet away to a family that was not perfect? I think not!---and I hope that family is reunited with the dog that they fell in love with.
This is a very unfortunate situation. I believe it has gotten out of control because Ellen is who she is and I believe the shelter woman will be trying to sue in the coming days. My heart tells me she is only doing this for any gain she can get out of it. Right she is putting on that she is the victim, yes we know better but I believe there will be a lawsuit, a very unfortunate thing.
After all she is already claiming she can't go to work because of it.
