Tough call...have to go with Christian Bale overall, even though he is not (at least yet) the best box office draw like 2nd runner and very talented actor Hugh Jackman (as if you met him in real life, you would swear he was gay despite the wife and kids).
Have to give the above poster props for great charactor actor, Michael Caine...never has been a really good looking man, but has always been able to morph into the role the he is portraying so much so that you forget about him as an actor, and relate to him, for better or worse, depending on what he is portraying, which is the ultimate goal of any true actor that is in it for the craft, not the money (but has given him plenty of steady work over the past few decades).
