I think Nicole saw a wonderful example of motherhood in her own mother, even if Lionel did treat her mother like dirt. Most women emulate their own mother, and if that is the case, then Nicole will be very caring and good with her baby. She might not always be good to herself, but she is good to those she loves and she will love her baby.
