Plot
Over summer vacation, the East High Wildcats are ready to enjoy their vacation and earn some money at summer jobs. Troy Bolton (Zac Efron) lands a job at the country club, Lava Springs, not knowing that his job is a part of Sharpay Evans's (Ashley Tisdale) plan to steal him from Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Hudgens). Accidentally foiling Sharpay's plot, Troy not only helps Gabriella get a job as a lifeguard, but also lands jobs for Chad (Corbin Bleu), Taylor (Monique Coleman), Zeke (Chris Warren Jr), Martha (Kaycee Stroh), Kelsi (Olesya Rulin), Jason (Ryne Sanborn) and the rest of his Wildcat teammates.

Making it worse, Sharpay finds out Kelsi has written a duet for Troy and Gabriella that's sure to outperform everyone at the club's annual Midsummer Night's Talent Show. Reminded of her humiliation in winter musical, Sharpay is determined not to suffer a repeat and forms her own campaign to make sure she's not upstaged again. As they go head to head, Troy is enjoying the life of the privileged set, and begins to question his values.

Production

Before rehearsal began, Disney's High School Musical site put up a poll[2] for what the viewers want to see in High School Musical 2. Due to that voting, Miley Cyrus will have a cameo appearance in the movie.[citation needed]

In early February, 2007, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu and Vanessa Anne Hudgens were reported to be holding out for a more lucrative contract.[3] Disney Channel representatives claimed rehearsals would begin on schedule, and by February 19th, the entire cast was on set and rehearsing in St. George and Salt Lake City, Utah.[4] The cast wrapped up filming on April 13, 2007 and have since returned home.[5]

In the first released trailer, the main cast is shown counting down the seconds until summer break. In a teaser, the trailer asks "Are you ready... for the start of something new?" before showing the High School Musical 2 logo along with the Disney Channel logo. An ad campaign, asking viewers to email their friends about the site to reveal a new poster, was also shown. Early scenes of the movie can be seen during the video for What Time Is It?.

Kenny Ortega confirmed that the singing voice of Troy Bolton will be Zac Efron only and not blended with the voice of Drew Seeley as in the first movie. This is to avoid criticism that arose from the first movie and Efron's absence from the Concert Tour.[

Release

Disney Channel has announced in one of its TV commercials that it will air a program called Road to High School Musical 2 starting on June 8, 2007. The weekly program, leading up to the premiere of High School Musical 2 in August, offers viewers a behind-the-scenes look into the production of the movie. The world premiere of the music video What Time Is It? was shown on Saturday June 9th, 2007.

ANd if you are curious i know some things about HSM3:

High School Musical 3 is a planned film of Disney Channel's highly successful High School Musical franchise, slated for release in 2008. According to Oren Aviv, president of production for Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group, this film will debut in movie theaters.

Development

Originally titled Haunted High School Musical, Zac Efron and Ashley Tisdale confirmed in July 2007 that the proposed "haunted" aspect of the film was scrapped. [4]

Lucas Grabeel was interviewed as saying the plot will be about the junior prom. However, he also said that "not a word of the script has been put down; we're not even attached to it. It's just a possibility..."
Film plot was originally slated to be "Haunted" and follow the plot of a Halloween movie, however in recent interviews it seems as if other plot lines are being explored including prom and graduation.
The "Haunted" part of the title was just a fake title being used by production companies. This happens a lot when making a movie or television show.

Lucas Grabeel was quoted in a June/July edition of J-14 that the storyline would probably have something to do with Prom and not Halloween or a haunting of any kind as originally planned.
