Ever, wow, that's hard. The mind races--Olivier, Pacino, DeNiro...and it lands on Paul Newman. He doesn't tend to come up on the "best of" list, but if you look at his body of work, it's tremendous.
Actress? Again, difficult. Certainly a tie between Judi Dench and Meryl Streep for modern times. The past? Helen Hayes, Deborah Kerr...sorry, can't make a decision.
