Does anyone have any idea how i would go about getting a certain band'ssong in an advert i'm creating?
What would i have to do to go about getting the song i want legally without being sued, hunted down etc....

depends on how well known the song.. they will either want a flat fee or a percentage depending how much its played. That you need to sort out between you and the label.
you need to contact a record labels "licensing" department.
contact the record company for clearence.. and check with the MCPS who is the legal owner..
